The measurement of the flanges and webs of cast iron, wrought iron and steel beams can be undertaken       using a combination of direct measurement (eg taping and vernier callipers) and ultrasonic measurement. The member to be measured should be cleaned of corrosion products prior to measurement. 

 

Metal samples can be taken from areas of low stress for tensile testing.
