Masonry Structures

BGA Structural Testing have extensive experience in the determination of the thickness and composition of bridge abutments and piers for re-decking works primarily on railway structures using rotary coring techniques. We are also able to determine the foundation levels of the substructure by similar methods.

We are also able to determine the barrel thickness and composition of arch bridges by rotary coring using electric, hydraulic and compressed air powered core drills. Significant enhancement of the strength of arch bridges can be gained through the determination and assessment of the effectiveness of the haunching provided.

BGA Structural Testing have undertaken the structural investigation of many masonry bridges including the extraction of stone and brick cores for compression testing and where this is not feasible the extraction of whole bricks and mortar samples to enable the strength of the brickwork to be ascertained.
